Here are my favorite EPs in 2013 and probably tops my list over the LPs.  I’m returning by keeping it simple.
So without further ado, in no particular order:

Nothing Lasts Long by Painted Palms

Beautiful psych-pop with a Beatles-esque sheen.  Their 2014 album with selections from their singles/EP is out now. Title-track lyrics “Light is like honey / moving so slow / I used to see man / Now, I don’t know”

Carolina by TEEN

Teeny Lieberson, keyboard player for Here We Go Magic, goes solo, channels early PJ Harvey and creates songs with large guitars that will take you away on their waveforms.   Lyrics “Is this your ticket to paradise / then why are you already dead?”

Love’s Crushing Diamond by mutual benefit

Mighty and sweet orchestral pop/folk from Jordan Lee.  A more gentle and experimental Lost in the Trees, even the name is uncapitalized.   Their bandcamp also has some really great recordings and fully realized sketches that holds up to the EP.

Empty Estate by Wild Nothing

Wild Nothing has always been instantly nostalgic, but “Dancing Shell” seems to go into that Talking Heads land without a hiccup and the songs that support it stay rooted in that classic dreampop world.

Fonograf Singles by Beck

The man’s still got it!

Joyful Noise Singles by Kishi Bashi

Each single from 151a has a b-side cover of songs from Talking Heads, ELO, and Beirut.  The orchestral/psyche blending is done with such precision and glorious vocals, it leaves you wondering how he did it without creating a muddled mess.
